Nando’s: Pushing the boundaries for online videos

Here at Greedy Media we always love ads which are witty and try to push the boundaries.

One of the companies that is always pushing the boundaries and tiptoeing on the line of political correctness when it comes to video is Nando’s.

The South African restaurant chain has poked fun at various groups in its ads, whether it’s brutal dictators or poll dancers . The chicken specialists have carved out a reputation for its cheeky ads, and courted a fair bit of controversy as well

Last December, a Nando’s advert poking fun at Zimbabwean dictator Robert Mugabe was removed after Nando’s staff received threats against them from people loyal to Mr Mugabe’s cause.

In the advert, Mr Mugabe is shown playing with a number of dead dictators, including a water-pistol fight with Colonel Gaddafi, making sand angels with Saddam Hussein, riding on a tank with Idi Amin in a scene parodying Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio from Titanic, and also singing karaoke with China’s Mao Tse-Tung.

Below are some of the Nando’s commercials we’ve found. What do you think – are you a fan of the Nando’s ads? Or are they going too far?
