Video and SEO: How Video can make your business reach Google’s First Page
Using video to promote your business has many advantages. Not only do you get a visual representation of your brand and a platform to showcase your products, it also helps with your SEO.
SEO, or Search Engine Optimisation, is all about optimising your website and content so it ranks at the top of search engines, ie. get to the first page of Google.
But now Google have shifted the goalposts and found that video ranks higher and websites with video are 53 times more likely to appear on the front page of Google.
When you upload a video to Youtube, you are 100% certain to be indexed onto Google’s search engine. While this doesn’t mean you have a 100% chance of hitting the front page, it does mean that Google knows your video exists.
Google also leans towards blended search results, which means it gives higher rankings to video content than other forms of web content.
And with Youtube being owned by Google, if you upload your video to Youtube it is much more likely to be seen and is more likely to show up on the first page of Google for your brand or relevant keywords.
It’s the world’s second largest search engine (behind Google), if you index your video correctly and use the right tags and keywords, the benefits are huge.
Youtube gets an estimated 3 billion views per day and 48 hours of video is uploaded a minute to the site.
The world has already tuned into the benefits of online video, so if your business hasn’t, it’s time to play catch up.
And it doesn’t stop with Youtube. Facebook last week announced their intention to introduce “Timeline” for Facebook pages, which brings big benefits if you have video.
From March 30 (or before if you make the switch early) users on business pages will be able to pin videos to the top of your page and also set videos to full-width – allowing you to showcase your videos to your audience much more easily.
So if you want to reach the top of Google, and showcase your brand in a whole new way, it’s time to look at online video. After all, your customers have been doing it for years.
